A very appreciative and great client of mine contacted me to schedule a ” full treatment” detail on a 2009 Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640 Coupé he recently acquired. After a thorough walk around inspection, we agreed the car needed a complete surface revival, starting with the paint protection film removal. This was required before a full two stage paint correction could be performed and the application of Xpel Ultimate Paint Protection Film.
In addition to a full paint correction and Xpel protection film, the Leatherique leather treatment would need to be performed to properly restore this car to a pristine state.
For even more spectacular results, the client decided on coating the Xpel Ultimate PPF with CQuartz Finest Cermaic Paint Coating to add incredible: gloss, chemical and scratch resistance, and definition of reflection.
During the initial inspection, it was very easy to see how dark and yellow the old paint protection film had become over time.
Old Paint Protection Film Removal is a tedious task, requiring great patience and mental focus. Using a steamer, an extra set of hands, a few cups of coffee, and nearly four hours made for a successful victory. I put on gloves only after my fingers started to tingle, 90 minutes into the removal process..
Once the paint protection film removal was complete on the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640 coupé, it is easy to see how yellow the film is. This had been greatly discoloring the beautiful custom paint on this stunning vehicle for far too long.
Come to find out, this is one very unique Murci! The unique interior and a custom color we both fabricated from the Lamborghini factory.
Although the vehicle is only 2009, there were still many wet sanding marks throughout the paint’s finish. I guess being custom doesn’t mean flawless finish.
Below is a 50/50 shot (before and after) of the paint correction level which worked best on this paint system. The combination of pad, liquid, tool, and process achieved a near 85%% correction level during the first paint correction process. Using a Rupes 21mm Bigfoot and Rupes 15mm for this correction worked like a charm with microfiber discs and M105. The final paint correction step was a finish polish, performed with a foam pad and Meguiar’s M205.
All of the black trim areas, including the pillars were also paint corrected.
In addition to the two step paint correction, the interior leather required a deep cleaning utilizing the Leatherique treatment. The leather was very dry and discolored in spots do to poor maintenance by the previous owner.
After about 14 hours of Leatherique Rejuvinator seeping deep into leather in order to hydrate and soften the hide, the seat was cleaned with Leatherique Prestine Clean. A warm moist microfiber towel was used to deep clean and rejuvenate the leather to a soft and supple state.
After a full paint surface wipe down with CarPro Eraser, Cquartz Finest Cermaic Paint Coating was applied to all painted surfaces.
Below: The Cquartz Finest Certification Sticker was place in an area that most people will see, while still being hidden from plain sight.
Remember all that yellowing film from the first pictures? It was completely replaced with Xpel Ultimate paint protection film. This Murciélago LP 640 Coupé is so stunning that could stare at her all day and never get tired!
