Why Tesla Is Different

Tesla Paint Has Unique Challenges

Tesla's manufacturing process and paint chemistry create specific vulnerabilities that require experience and knowledge to handle correctly. Their large, flat panels are prime targets for rock chips, road rash, and door dings, and the soft clear coat swirls under a wash mitt that would never mark a German car. Most general detailers learn this the hard way. We've known it since 2012.

Notoriously Soft Paint

Tesla's clear coat is thinner and softer than most European and Japanese brands. It scratches and swirls far more easily than typical vehicles.

Unique Panel Gaps

Tesla's panel fitment and gaps require specific film cutting and tucking techniques. Improper installation leads to lifting edges at panel junctions.

Delivery Damage

Tesla's direct-delivery model means vehicles arrive with shipping scratches, contamination, and sometimes light panel damage that requires professional prep.

Cybertruck Stainless Steel

The Cybertruck's unique stainless steel body requires a completely different approach to protection and cannot be treated like conventional painted vehicles.

"I've had 3 Teslas now and have brought all of them to Signature Detailing. Greg is simply the best. He protected my first Model 3 back in 2019 and that car still looks incredible. I won't go anywhere else."

Ask Greg Anything
Tesla's clear coat is thinner and softer than most European and Japanese brands, and the large, flat panels on every model are prime targets for rock chips, road rash, and door dings. Paint protection film is the only product that physically absorbs an impact. A ceramic coating cannot stop a stone. On a Tesla, the front bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors are the minimum coverage we recommend.
Yes. Clear bra is the older, informal name for paint protection film, and both terms describe the same product: a transparent urethane film applied over your paint. The original clear bras covered only a strip across the front bumper. Modern film is optically clear, self-healing, and can be installed across the full front end or the entire vehicle.
Within the first few days of delivery, before the parking lot chips and wash swirls begin. Tesla's direct-delivery model means cars often arrive with shipping scratches and contamination, so we start every new-delivery job with a decontamination wash, paint thickness readings on every panel, and defect documentation under LED lighting. Booking before your delivery date is the easiest way to get in quickly.
The most common choice is a full front end: bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors, which covers nearly every surface road debris reaches at speed. Owners who keep their cars long term, or who drive a Model S Plaid or a Cybertruck, often move up to full-body coverage. We walk you through the trade-offs rather than pushing a package.
Yes. The Cybertruck's stainless steel body has no clear coat to protect, so it cannot be treated like a conventional painted vehicle. Film on stainless behaves differently during installation and removal, and the panel geometry is unlike anything else Tesla builds. We have protected Cybertrucks since they began arriving in New Jersey.
Almost always, at least lightly. A ceramic coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so swirls and delivery scratches get sealed in for years. Because Tesla's clear coat is soft, correction calls for a gentler approach and less aggressive polishing than a German car would need, which is exactly where inexperienced shops cause damage.
Yes. Matte and satin paint protection film is available for any Tesla, and it is the standard choice for owners who want to convert a gloss finish to a stealth look without repainting. It protects identically to gloss film and can be applied to the full front end or the whole vehicle.
